The foundation's mission is to strengthen ties within the administration, faculty, and staff at Jackson State University, and the community of metro area Jackson, MS.

Goals and Objectives

To achieve our mission, we have set the following goals and objectives:

Support Fraternal and Educational Institutions

We are committed to actively supporting the mission, principles, and objectives of our fraternal and educational institutions. By doing so, we aim to create sustainable academic and professional development opportunities for all.

Resource Provision for Undergraduates and Students

We strive to provide resources to undergraduate members of our fraternal organization and students of Jackson State University. This includes offering professional development programs and transitional guidance to ensure successful post-undergraduate matriculation.

Support for Alumni in Service and Scholarship

We aim to provide both monetary and resource support to alumni of Jackson State University engaged in community service, scholarship, and financial relief efforts. By supporting these endeavors, we aim to foster a culture of service and academic excellence.

Jeff Sloan
Chairman

Jeff Sloan is Global Trade Compliance Director for Thermo Fisher Scientific, operating out of the Orlando area.  As the Director of Global Trade Compliance, Jeff has responsibilities focusing on various U.S and non-U.S. Government regulations pertaining to import and export compliance that include establishing and maintaining corporate trade compliance strategy, conducting internal assessments and audits, developing and conducting training workshops and webinars, and providing consultation and guidance to Thermo Fisher trade compliance personnel worldwide.

He completed his undergraduate studies at Park University (Austin TX) and Jackson State University, receiving a BS in Management/Human Resources and Interdisciplinary Studies respectively.  Jeff received his MBA with a Project Management concentration from Herzing University in 2017. Jeff also served in the U.S. military as a member of U.S. Army Reserves (1985-2003) where he reached the rank of Sergeant, and his Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) were Combat Medical Specialist and Veterinarian Food Inspector.

In addition to being Board Chairman for the Thee We Love Achievement Foundation, Jeff is actively involved in the Winter Park (FL) Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and the Winter Park Achievement Foundation where his currently serving on the Foundation’s Board of Directors. He is a dedicated husband to Demetria Sloan for 25 years and father of two children, Devin and Jasmine.

Kevin Barnes
Board Members

Originally from the Mississippi Delta, Kevin is a proud graduate of Thomas Edwards High School in Ruleville, MS. Kevin would go on to attend Jackson State University in the Fall of 1990. While there, he would join several clubs such as the NAACP, Economics and Finance clubs. Kevin would also become a Fall 93 Initiate of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. where he would serve as the Guide Right Chair and Historian. After receiving a B.A of Finance in 1994, Kevin would accept a Banking position with Suntrust Bank and move to Atlanta, GA. Kevin currently is a Senior Business Consultant with Office Depot, Inc.

Kevin has been married for 27 years to his lovely college sweetheart, Erica Barnes who is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. They have a lovely 17 year old daughter, Kennedi, who is a current 12th Grade Honor Student. Kevin has been active with the Stone Mountain Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi where he currently serves as the NPHC Chair for DeKalb County and also serves as a Board member. Kevin currently serves as Funds Disbursement Chair with the Delta Delta Alumni Association.

Hiawatha Northington
Secretary (BoardCounsel)

Hiawatha Northington II is a distinguished attorney and Managing Partner of the Jackson office of the AMLaw 100 law firm GRSM, where he specializes in complex litigation matters, including professional liability, labor and employment, and insurance defense. With over 30 years of experience, he has successfully represented a diverse range of clients, including Fortune 500 companies, small municipalities, and individuals, in both state and federal courts. His impressive career includes first-chairing numerous bench and jury trials and resolving hundreds of cases through innovative legal strategies.Hiawatha holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law (1996) and a Bachelor of Business Administration, summa cum laude, in Accounting from Jackson State University (1993). Throughout his career, he has earned several honors, including being named a 2019 Leader in Law by the Mississippi Business Journal and receiving the 2001 Lawyer of the Year award from the Mississippi
